Choosing a Niche That Fits

Here we are again, so let’s continue. You should have your list of at least ten things. One thing on my list is fishing; of course that is a far too big and competitive term. If you typed it on Google and searched the term fishing, you would come up with over 189 million competing pages that have the word fishing in it.

So think a bit on fishing. You can go to Google Keyword tools and type in fishing and it will come back with some ideas or you can check out a few fishing sites and see if anything grabs you. When I drill down to find something I want to sell I use quotes around the term in Google. This gives exact phrases in the exact order that I type them.

If I want to know how many titles are matched to the keywords I have chosen I will type in the word, intitle:”exact phrase”. For example, intitle:”saltwater fly fishing rods” Saltwater fly fishing has 222,000 pages, so lets it drill it down some more. Saltwater fly fishing rods, now that is more manageable at 2910 pages.

So to sum it up what I do when searching one of my ideas.

Google it
Google it with quotes
Google it with intitle: quotes

In our example fishing it would look like this:

Fishing-189 million
Saltwater fishing-1,580,000
Saltwater fly fishing-1,340,000
Saltwater fly fishing rods-396,000
“Saltwater fly fishing rods”-2,910
Intitle:”saltwater fly fishing rods”-0

Whether or not it is a good word to use and focus on will take into consideration many aspects. One that is good to look at is: On the Google page down the right hand side does it show any sponsored links? It should have at least three to show that someone is making money in the niche, and then all you want to do is make it before them.

We can see that there are many sponsored ads on the page. That means that people are making money if they are paying to advertise and from Google Keywords tool it shows it gets 400 searches a month so should be a great keyword to focus on.

The key then is to write about saltwater fly fishing rods, and get those articles out to the directories for people to read and those that are looking for what you have to offer will click on your site and hopefully buy from you.

Again I will have to point out that if you don’t want to write about this topic or pay to have it written, then perhaps you need to look elsewhere for a money making idea online.
